CH. 1

I chose this symbol of a broken egg because it does a great job of symbolizing the characters in The Great Gatsby in that, that are all like eggs in a way. In an egg there is a hard outer Shell just as the characters are portrayed with a stern outer layer but just as the egg does they have a softer inner part that that is hidden and protected by the hard outer shell, but once people break through their hard exterior there is a soft and sensitive inside hell. The characters in the story for the most part portray themselves as stern people with little as portrayed by Daisy . The same egg symbolism applies to the islands in east and west egg island in that the islands are not as they appear to be. the Egg islands have a stable and classy look to the them when in fact they are subject to all the same things that the middle and lower classes are.

Colors are a constant recurring symbol that F. Scott Fitzgerald uses throughout the length of his novel. He uses color as a way of emphasizing in a subtle way the moods and personality that the characters go through. gold is used to represent wealth along with silver which is usually associated with Gatsby and blue is representative of sadness mostly associated with Daisy. the colors are a good way to use symbolism and they are used very often throughout the novel.
